Diamond Cut Alloy Wheel Repair & Refurbishment

We often get asked "what is a diamond cut wheel" The easiest way to describe a diamond cut wheel is to compare the face of the wheel with a CD, both have very fine lines running around their circumference. You will also notice a difference between the face of the wheel compared to the sides of the spokes as the spokes normally have a painted finish.

Diamond cut wheels are being fitted to more and more vehicles as a way of marking out the top of the range models along with the more sporty unique models (for example the Citroen DS3). Mercedes, Lexus Ford and Honda have been fitting diamond cut wheels to their range of cars for some time now, however we are noticing that BMW, Nissan, Bentley, VW, Audi and Porsche are fitting Diamond cut wheels to more of their product range.

Mint Alloys can undertake repairs to diamond cut wheels. Diamond cut wheels are refurbished in the same way as standard painted wheels in as much as they will be stripped of all their paint and lacquer in an acid bath, the wheels will then be cleaned in an Aqua blast cabinet to provide a clean and fully degreased surface ready for the Powder coat primer to be applied. The wheels are then painted in the selected colour and then baked in a oven. The next part of the process differs from the standard painted wheel as the wheel now has to mounted on a CNC lathe so the the face of the wheel can be machined to get the diamond cut finish. Once the wheel has been machined it is then cleaned and then heated in an oven ready for the Acrylic Lacquer to be applied. Once the wheel has been Lacquered it is then placed back in the oven for its final curing. Once cured the tyres are refitted and balanced.
